Silviu keeps yelling at me to sleep on time but I’ve been up for like 14 hours at this point and I’m also dieting for an absolutely stupid reason and I sleep like 9-10 hours a day anyway.

That’s a valid counterargument for why you wouldn’t believe Zug was the Puzzlemaster, somehow I glazed over it. It’s a lot more plausible than the stance that the Godfather would’ve innately given you information without consideration for their circumstances. It explains a town outlook and defends an evil position, at least in isolation.
As the former it once again sets your reasons to nominate Jarek under scrutiny, since if you thought Jarek was evil (yesterday), it could be reasonable for Zug to be the Puzzlemaster once more; and as evil, it’s potentially a slip that Jarek’s role was real, if there’s no possibility of doubt in Zug being the Puzzlemaster.
Either way, I don’t think it renders his death inconceivable.

I think Zug had a really cool fringe world which didn’t require Guava as the Puzzlemaster, but I didn’t read it.
