I like the specificity on the numbers and how you can do free time events ad infinitum. And the general building layout. I like how monokuma provides clear gender markers

Its not very good but at least in a funny way. Paced too fast and dialogue is bad and not just because of tbe slurs. Some characters have potential but the game is not very inspired in like anything despite alsomaking you go wtf every 5 seconds. Music kinda ok when it plays as expected. Trial minigames neat but often wonky. Executions pretty good but i dont really care for executions in general.

i got a little bit distracted chasing an idea as to how the game is good actually.

I think the later bits have a certain quality to them, some of it, like the emptiness and corresponding long treks and people just showing up in your room as well as the lack of attention to anything that happened before are taken from canon. And there’s an element of this that comes from its context as one of many fangans. But a lot of the particularities of the game really add to the… surreality of it. Events happen and character traits are established with no lead-up, questioning, or follow-through, locations are just as incoherent. You are just kind of there as things happen and you are not given time to process. This is also aided by some of the rougher edges. Encounters with sprites i think werent supposed to be there, that one line saying ‘you can only come here twice’. You not being able to enter that one room in chapter 1. Whatevers going on with the saunas. The localized music. But it’s also present in a lot of more intentional details, the altered references to real life properties take a new light, they feel wrong, somehow forbidden especially when under significantly less threat from the actual companies. The spaces are more liveable yet nobody lives in them. The lights turning off every minute in chapter 4. The unresolved details such as the model’s brother(?) Beingimplicated in the death of the puppeteer’s sister. . The trials themselves add nicely but this is long and i think those arguments lie closer to the borders of ‘i am just locked out’ or ‘the game is just bad’. But all of this intersects with the hospital and hospital-themed protaganist nicely. I assume. I dont have much actual testimony to compare to. But the way our protaganist experiences the game in these eternal dense yet meaningless conversations is actually kinda interesting.

like idk how bad you are at handling drinks (which should in and of itself be a prerequisite to be the ultimate party host or whatever, if you ask me, but i digress), you should. probably notice the difference between lemonade and gasoline, right?

though of course the better questions are “why did the hosts have a container full of gasoline labeled lemonade in the first place” and “why did literally everyone at the party drink it anyway”

it’s so bad it rolls back around to being awesome, 10/10 no notes

less awesome is having to litigate which of the chapter 3 killer’s personalities did it when that. shouldn’t matter? (though of course it turns out they both did it so that was pointless anyway) and also that the other half of the trial was a rulebreak kill that monokuma decided to make a trial for. fun i guess

i’m going to be so for real once the actual litigation started i thought ‘these have been so stupid, i forgot which one was which and don’t even know what they’re getting at & benguined says it crashes soon’ so i stopped.

the answer’s like. she shocked herself while committing the crime so that both of her personalities did it. i think? i don’t remember. it’s stupid that it was an argument anyway
