needed a little bit of coloring to visulize the possibilities in box 2 and 3, but I wouldn’t say it was a coloring practice. (you just need to realize you can’t put the [5] on the renban line in box 3. Once I found/proved that logic, it became a simple sudoku.)
I realized that as my first (meaningful) step, and yet it still took me a darn long time to decipher which tiles were which numbers. Until eventually I ended up at the black kropki, which opened the path to the solution like a broken dam.
I started with the column 3 and row 5 German whispers. (and the corresponding renban lines and X pairs)
box 7 whisper end is either 1-3 or 7-9
Which means r9c3 has to be either [2] or [8] (otherwhise the box 7 renbans would break) so the box 3 X-pair could be only a 4-6 pair.
in row 5, [5] has to be on the renban. (and via a few deduction and contradiction, I reached the point that the renban line has to be a 4-5-6.)
These helped me put down a few numbers, but I was stuck for a while, until I realized what is happening in column 8.
