Mate is literally an English word and not a Bulgarian word. There is no Bulgarian equivalent for it I think. We use “Partner” I think

I imagined myself as an animal when I said it for amusement. Anyway, if anyone would seriously clutch their pearls over hearing a word like that leads an entirely different life than me, I will likely never meet them, and their opinion is unimportant to me
