I think it’s more just the idea of it not being framed as a luxury item? Less a thing for competitive gaming (I did some research on this a year or so back, and the most recommended ones are, “Buy it from this website that’s entirely in Japanese and takes two months to get here”) and more a thing for the average person to buy as a show-off item.
Makes sense as a business decision; it just kinda throws me off how casually it’s shown.

granted if you’re spending a hundred it should probably be glass or at least have wireless charging for your mouse built in

but like you can get a quality desk mat for like $30 and thats prolly best for most people

My mousepad at home is an $8 one I got off Amazon, and it works pretty well.
My dad uses a mat I got from a Mega Metagross TCG set several years back (this works surprisingly well).

like i remember having a desk and having a decent mousepad and i remember being on my shitty laptop using no mousepad and its like. the smallest deal ever
