one thing i find really interesting is that in the documentation for message-bus, which is a library that was split off from discourse originally, theres support for chunked long polling, and it insists that this is the best method to use. and from what i can tell at least our version of discourse explicitly requests unchunked. unsure as for why. more research needed

it might depend on browser specifics? theres also been some oddities regarding he formatting of the response message
