yeah I mean scooter should ideally not be a replacement for walking if a trip is indeed walkable

but like if you’ve gotta go a few miles then that’s quick and easy at 15mph on a bike or scooter or something but could take hours at walking pace

The fear that struck into my heart when she informed me she was going on a juice cleanse and I had to as politely as possible try to dislodge the idea from her head

whats that

the name sounds harmless but if its striking fear into your heart im assuming its not

You dont eat food and only drink juice.

that seems perfectly fine, no?

like a bit silly compared to just a water-only fast but like i dont see any way that would realistically cause harm as long as you’re supplementing vitamins and stuff you’d be missing

It’s something she was doing not because she especially wanted to fast, but because she thought it would help “detoxify” herself, and generally I think it’s bad to Not Eat Food for several days because this will get rid of nebulous Toxins

And particularly I was worried about her trying to get me or my siblings to do this because she was worried about Toxins, because she was the kind of person that refused to use the microwave because it “ruins the food’s immaterial Energy”, and it seemed like a path that was, bad.

i mean yeah sure it doesn’t have shit to do with toxins but there is literally zero harm (and potentially even some good? although not anything id go out of my way for) that will come to you if you just don’t eat for a few days

if anything the juice fucks that up since you’re still eating (and sugar at that lmao) but like unless you have some underlying health condition to me (not a doctor, this is not medical advice) that seems entirely harmless for most healthy adults

Hm, might be another me-issue, because not eating for several days makes me, like, profoundly ill

could be an underlying health issue thing yeah

most people will feel super fucking hungry and probably quite bad for like the 24-48 hour mark but after that it should basically go away and then you’re kinda Just Fine most of the time lol

deffo not advisable to keep up long term without a doctor’s supervision but like a few days without food really is in fact completely normal biologically-speaking and happened to our ancestors way more often than it does nowadays lol

Yeah I mean I got the standard “you feel hungry at first and then you stop feeling hungry”, but I’d get really weak and shaky after ~24 hours, to the point of not really being able to get up and walk around, even to grab water, etc.

Bigger problem was that it made eating any kind of food extremely painful and nauseating afterward, even if I tried to slowly work up to it with small amounts. I have a lot of memories of accidentally fasting for too long and feeling super super awful as I tried to start eating again

I was also underweight despite rarely exercising so I think it might’ve been long-term issues around not eating?

Anyway it was also a psychological concern, my mom had a lot of issues around food/weight and I did as well, and I was worried about the Well It Gets Rid Of Toxins pushing her over the edge there

yeah I mean if your entire family has a history of being underweight there’s definitely more to be concerned about

your average american isn’t usually at risk of being severely underweight though lol

I think all of my female cousins on her side and also my sister had some level of eating issues at some point, one to the point of clinical treatment. My mom definitely did when she was a teenager. Still complained about her (middle-to-low-of-healthy-range) weight as an adult. So I have nerves on the subject of “I’m going to start fasting bexause it’s Healthy :)” (for false reasons)

:closed_umbrella: Speaking of eating, I was pretty heavy growing up, but I lost a lot of weight at college and got into a pretty happy equilibrium where I didn’t snack outside special occasions, had meals that really worked, and got to have fun every now and then with a steady weight.

:closed_umbrella: Then I uh.

:closed_umbrella: Had a hell relationship. For over 2 years.

:closed_umbrella: Put on a looooootta weight during that. Eating was a handy way to destress, and lemme tell you, that lady sure was good at making everything into a stress bomb for me!

:closed_umbrella:

:closed_umbrella: Still miss her. Like I do every friend, every love, every world I’ve been let into.

:closed_umbrella: And if she came back…

:closed_umbrella: I’d just have to hope my loved ones would protect me, y’know?

My sister was seriously underweight as a kid so the doctor told my parents “oh just feed her hotdogs and stuff and make her finish all her food no matter what” (?)

Surprise: teaching her to eat until she couldn’t anymore instead of stopping when she was full had negative impacts
