I usually do:

9 Town → 2 Mafia
10 Town → 3 Mafia (with some substantial extra power for town)
11 Town → 3 Mafia (with some substantial extra power for town)
12 Town → 3 Mafia
13 Town → 4 Mafia

Nah. I don’t want to turn a signup thread into a debate thread, so I’m trying to drag the convo here instead.

Yeah this is the standard for all normal setups with PRs, across ~pretty much all mafia communities out there

Only isn’t the case for mountainous (village gets extra villagers in exchange for no PRs)

and the convention can be broken and you can put an even amount of players if your setup has multiple KP and/or multiple protectives. not many of these setups out there, but nothing stopping you if you want something like that

That sounds like a great idea we need more threads for arguing

For this specific instance, I disagree. One may create new debate threads, but I prefer to not see debates in signup threads if possible. (Unless it involves an egregious error in the setup that somehow bypassed review.)

you could design anything you want it could all theoretically work

the convention of odd number of players is to avoid MyLo and sleeping because waiting is boring

i’m not a mafia designer, i don’t know too deeply about all the nuance and fancy stuff. i’m sure you could make a 7v2 setup fun and work, i just don’t have the experience. i only know like the baseline stuff

“Avoid MyLos if you can avoid it, boring to play”
“Try to not make players salty”

are like, the only fundamentals of setup design, i think

low count games are great shoutout to all small game hosts

Huh… Interesting…
(That idea. I want to break it.)

“MYLO is disadvantageous to Town.” I wish to break this idea. Time to add new rules.

At the start of the game, players will vote whether they will allow MYLO to exist or not. If the majority does, then it exists. If not, then “MYLO” instead becomes LYLO, and any tie prioritizes the death of Mafia members.

Sleeping… I’m not sure what to feel about it, but I do think that -in normal cases- it is a great means to justify Mafia victory when they reach parity. (Because I set my games such that it takes priority in ties.)

i think sleeping is a great idea, both within and outside of mafia games

like with the d2 vote i was fairly confident that both carroty and snickerz were town within the last like 3 minutes of the vote so if i had any sort of thread control that’s what i would have advocated for

but i also know bringing up sleeping in a forums game is usually a death sentence alas

i told you there was a reason me and YBW didnt do it anymore lol
