Whenever i read the phrase “gives me the ick” i cringe and feel secondhand embarassment. That isnt to say i cringe at the sentiment - the sentiment is perfectly valid. Its just that, the phrase looks so … self-infantilizing to me. It looks like baby talk.

Other similar phrases that convey similar meaning are: “this is gross”, “this is disgusting”, “this makes me uncomfortable”, “this is discomforting” - these are all valid and “adult” phrases in my mind, i respect them. But the phrase “give me the ick” … sounds like a toddler struggling to communicate, so theyre using baby sounds, to me. It feels similar to “goo goo gaa gaa pee pee poo poo” to me. :skull:
