my take on love is that humans have evolved to become slowly conditioned to feel love towards people of the opposite sex that they’re frequently around
like, back in the stone age or whatever, the average dude would maybe meet 10 women that he isn’t closely related to in his entire life
it’s pretty unlikely that any of the 10 women will be his ‘soulmate’ or whatever. so he just kind of has to have kids with 1-2 women that he might not care about in other circumstances to ensure that his genes get passed down to the next generation
I mean this is just the mere exposure effect, you tend to feel attraction/affection (both romantic and playtonic) towards people/things you are exposed to more often
