I agree with this take - video games simply do not provide the same social event-ness / collaborative storytelling aspect that TTRPGs deliver in spades.
But it is an interesting question to answer as a designer, since a notable number of d20 systems have combat baked into so many of the rules. I think what draws me into pathfinder 2e’s design is that, while yes it does have intricate combat rules and is a higher complexity, I think they help feed into both the player fantasy ends as well as the “collaborative” ends - the system heavily rewards working as a team rather than as 4-5 separate islands, and you can generally translate the RP vision of the character into mechanics very easily.
Iunno, I find this quite satisfying.
