I have to get back to my dorm and change before I can barge in on them (and they appear to be packing up, so that’s a bit of a wash).

Decided to see what Cluely’s been up to since I haven’t seen them be obnoxious on Linkedin in a while.
Things are going…about as well as you’d expect.

The company attracted significant controversy and media attention for its initial “cheat on everything” marketing campaign, before pivoting to position itself as a conventional AI meeting assistant.

Cluely announced in late 2025 it would relocate…following a zoning violation at its live‑work residential property, where several employees had been residing and working.

Lee says in that same post that he “got a random cold call from some woman asking about numbers and told her some bs, did not expect an article about it.” But that call occurred because Cluely’s public relations representative emailed TechCrunch and offered to make Lee available for a story.

Turns out that if your entire strategy is to run across the ocean, you’ve got to be fast enough to not sink.

There is something so deeply funny about how the scope of their project went from, “You can lie to anyone to do anything!” to “We transcribe your meetings.”

Apparently the company was founded after its founders were suspended from Columbia for making a browser extension that would solve leetcode problems for you in technical interviews.
