This could be a failure of the wikipedia pageās description but they donāt seem to refute the counterhypothesis thatā¦ people choose avatars that reflect the traits they want to display.

I mean youāre not wrong.
My point was moreso that they point at people acting similarly to their online avatars and (in some cases, not all) explain it as the avatar being the cause when nothing about the experiment as described precludes the other hypothesis, thus not making it very strong evidence for the theory.
