The word as the idea of a swear is judged as the word as its underlying meaning because it derives its status as a swear from its underlying meaning.

i remember being 9 years old, and i said “jesus christ, this food is good” to my babysitter (who was this 70 year old mexican lady who lived a few doors down). and she freaked out, she lectured me for like 20 minutes to not use the lord’s name in vain. and then she told me that she knows jesus is watching over her, because whenever she prays to jesus to help find her parking, a spot always opens up. and then when my parents got home from work she told them that i had used the lord’s name in vain, but that they shouldn’t worry, because now i know not to
