to be fair Latin is not actually that useful for most purposes. Latin teachers will tell you ā€œoh Latin has so many real world applications. for example it makes you better at learning Romance languagesā€, but if you learn a Romance language that. Also makes you better at learning Romance languages. And at the end you know a Romance language rather than knowing Latin

I majored in one of the Handful of majors where Latin is actually useful and I still did not end up using very much of it :joy_cat:

(I guess, one caveat here, Latin courses are generally oriented around being able to read and mayyybe do a bit of writing, and not at all around being able to carry on a conversation. I have moderate auditory processing issues, which make me a little worse at English conversation and a lot worse at ā€˜non-classroom conversations in a language Iā€™m trying to learnā€™. so possibly the years of Latin were actually a good use of those language-learning hours?)
