well at that point i’d start to worry whether the pilot reacts fast enough before the plane rolls out of the back of the runway

What reference frame matters to the plane? The ground or the air?

Would it not be the air?
If the plane doesn’t move, but the treadmill moves it forward fast enough, I’m pretty sure that would still hit the necessary speed for getting off the ground.

lol fair enough but not rly the point of the question

Mhm! Right answer. The plane isn’t meaningfully affected, because it only cares about the wind both for lift and thrust

Next question. What about a car in a similar situation? You put it on the treadmill next to the plane. Typically it would be able to keep up with the plane. Is it still able to?

Wait no to be clear the treadmill rolls the other way

2wd, 4wd, or awd (idk enough about cars to know how this would affect the answer)

I’m aware; it just makes sense to me intuitively when framed from the other direction.

Doesn’t matter dealer’s choice

To be clear this is still a question about reference frames. Not really a question about cars

The plane does have engines lol so it does like. Move. It tries to take off

It would probably cause damage to the plane and the treadmill.

The dumb answer in my head is, “The plane requires far more force to pull back than a car because it has more mass than a car, so the car can’t keep up because the net force pulling it back is greater for the car than for the plane.”

buy your own damn treadmill

What? Does the treadmill apply a fixed force?

To be clear I’m here to be annoying

the treadmill applies several bullets to the car and plane and the people tied to the tracks because I put cannons inside of the treadmill.

Yes?
I’m presuming the car and the plane are on the same treadmill, so they’d have the same force pulling back on it.
