Yeah, Catan is a very diplomatic heavy game. (which can make the game a bit slow sometimes.)
Unless you count RNG, Kingmaker is rare in high ranked play though.
(There are a lot of nuances in gameplay, starting from where you predict others will place their starting settlement(s), and even guessing what cards people are holding, or why are they holding those.)
If you donāt like the diplomatic nature of Catan (aka the trading part most likely), but you like the randomness, you can try āticket to rideā, or ācarcassoneā if you want (some) player agency on other players. You can also try āAzulā or āAlhambraā if you want to play something less mean-spirited.
Or you can try āCandamirā. It tries to be Catan without the need for trading between players. In result, even with the randomness, it can get stale and boring after a few games, unlike any other game listed above.

Maybe we should have Catan game on FoL.
I doubt it worths the misc slot. (In general, unless you want to do something crazy, board games donāt worth the misc slotā¦)
Also Catan has a dedicated site for it already, if you want to play it online.

CATAN IS THE MOST INFURIATING FUCKING GAME FUCK THIS GARBAGE
Two turns in a row im about to pop off but a player before me rolls a 7, i discard my big hand, and they rob me. So im stuck there waiting 30 turns to progress. Swingyness of 30 turns, about 15 minutes of playtime, all because of one dice roll. This is sooo RNG heavy imo 
. The robber at least. I dont mind the rest. Fuck the fucking robber

But yes i also hate the player trading. When players trade they help each other so much at the cost of everyone else. Im sitting there looking at players accepting trades and letting other players having explosive turns and im like. Ok bye

Another issue i have with catan is its very easy to get locked out of the game. The leader can be stopped via robber, and then the 2nd and 3rd player can have fun, the player in last is still fucked. And it takes foreverrrr. Im losing my reputation ranking on BGA from leaving games i just donāt wanna slog through. To be fair its apparently a 30 year old game
