You need to understand that in Catan the rolls (and the resources you get) are public knowledge. If you se you about to pop off, others (at least the good players) are seeing that as well, it’s no wonder they are stealing from specially you at that point. Especially if you discarded half of your hands, since they know you kept the resources you want to keep. But I bet you the player in front of you had some knights hidden, to try you lock out.
-You should never keep big hands, if you ever suspect you will have more than 7 cards before your next turn either buy sdttlement cards or trade down, even if you need to do that with the bank. (This is the main reason, why good players still rush to build at the harbor.)
-You need to know, where are you going, and who can stop achieving that. (In a 4 player game, you mostly in contest with at least one other player, and in 3 player game, you need to be in contest with both of your opponents,)
-That’s really a skill issue, tbh. (and probably the result of very bad settlement placement.), Catan is RNG heavy enough, that with a good settlements, you being last shouldn’t be an issue. Also 2nd and 3 player still should keep each other in check, even if they make favoured trades. Because if they make a too good a trade, the other one can win if they aren’t careful. Also if someone can be blocked with the robber, they are definetly not in lead… Or they have poorly planned out their settlements.
-And my advice, don’t play Catan (or other diplomacy based games) on BGA. They aren’t really built for diplomacy games in mind. For Catan, your best bet would be colonist, in my opinion.
