You don’t just happen to find a group that plays like that though
You have to go looking for it

i hear “run and bun” is super good and hard if that’s what you’re looking for?

you need a pokemon calculator which shows you what all the trainers have and you have to route a way to beat them with your pokemon

funger eh

with funger you have to separately deal with the bullshit that the game throws at you

oh
I’ve done them for D&D 5e
Well, not DM’d for them
But I have played in them
Either goes the way of ‘get as far as you can’ or ‘get through this series of really hard fights’

a fight example
do you have any in your mind

setup or enemies or whatever

i’ll see if I can’t dig up one of the encounters

you’re basically just looking at high numbers and high quality of enemies to make a difficult encounter

you can obviously just spam enemies with save or suck abilities and statistically guarantee a wipe
the goal is to not do that though

funger is a puzzle game, let’s be real

i imagine most comically difficult turn based combat games are

the hardest turn based game would probably ask the play to use consumable resources really well to inch advantages forward

like the highest tier of knowledge check

the thing that turns funger on its head is how strong just…not fighting enemies is

whenever I look at kaizo pokemon games I really do get that impression

they also just flat out don’t look fun but I digress

kaizo pokemon is definitely a choice
