the most difficult step in making bacon is that it doesn’t tell you when it’s finished
you just lay it on the tray and put it in the oven
i’d call the minimum of cooking… french toast, prolly
making bacon is too close to just heating premade stuff up
I might be biased because that’s the first thing I learnt how to cook
i think basically anything counts as cooking
Like, making a salad and tossing it together counts as cooking imo
I think, practically, if you told someone you were to cook for them they’d be upset if you gave them cereal
A salad counts, though
You at least have to chop stuff
and like, if i said “ill make you a salad” and gave someone like a bowl of romaine with some carrots, and no dressing or other veggies, theyd prob be upset too even if i did technically make them a salad
…doesn’t a salad require several vegetables to be called that
Also: the difference is “this wouldn’t count as cooking in the eye of the beholder” versus “this sucks”
If I told someone I was making them a salad and I lit them on fire they’d be upset
It’s not really
There’s literally an idiom to “make a meal” out of something suggests a high amount of effort & difficulty
Unless I have misunderstood that my entire life, it does point to the general consensus being that making a meal is supposed to be a effortful task
I think the word “cooking” suggests cooking with heat
Theoretically speaking but that definition is dumb
There’s several cold meals that can be made without heating stuff up, I think
I dont think so, there are other words to use when not applying heat. Like preparing or making
it does. that’s why you refer to different culinary professionals by their actual title if they make cold foods.
French toast is a complex dish unless youre thinking of a simpler version than i am
