that’s really funny because I would have told you that I expected it to be even more common in British English
maybe that’s just an american stereotype LOL

The ‘proper’ sort of English with expanded vocabulary in every day use is restricted to traditionally affluent areas like St. Andrews, Edinburgh, London and parts of the English countryside
Accent discrimination is absolutely rife in Britain and there is a lot of us vs them mentality around it
And it’s like mostly entirely the English discriminating against themselves, for the record
Scotland is pretty much indifferent with accent differences until you reach Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the only place I have ever experienced discrimination based off of where I grew up, or live, or sound like, or went to school, or university. I went to a corporate law event and as soon as I told them which university I study at, they literally refused to speak to me - which I can only guess because it’s non-Russell Group. And the worst part is that the teaching quality is really good here, it just doesn’t have the prestige
I think I would be personally offended if it wasn’t for the fact I did receive an offer from a Russell Group university, and rejected it, and the reason I didn’t go to UCL or Cambridge or Oxford was because of the fact I had gotten accepted into university so fast that I didn’t even study for the qualifications that an English university would require, but oh well.
