This is describing a specific experience that I didnāt really have w/ picking my name I just had normal āI am transgender I want a different name I will pick a different name OK this is now meā. A new chosen name being part of your persona is a natural feature of a name IMO and not an integral part of this post (the core of it is āsilly online nickname ends up playing the role of a real name in your personaā)
Unrelatedly, the thing this describes did happen to me (I preferred the name Willow to my IRL name when I went by that), but I ended up getting a silly nickname (āWollowā) that literally everybody but one guy I didnāt like used, thus causing me to associate being called the name Willow with the one guy I didnāt like, and thus I didnāt end up liking the name Willow enough to use it
