The last time i argued with someone on reddit was about 5 years ago. I entered a brief argument / discussion now

The subject was a meme that you never see commercials for chinese food

Commenter A:

Most Chinese restaurants are single locations, not chains. (Panda Express being the exception.) TV commercials are generally too expensive to make financial sense for single location restaurants.

Not sure if it’s true, but the explanation you’d often hear for why Chinese restaurants are usually single locations is that they were often owned by an immigrant Asian family, and the kids were free labor. So chain restaurants that had to pay all their employees couldn’t compete.

Me:

A chain restaurant that has the money for expensive ads cant compete with a poorer local chinese restaurant that doesnt have the money for expensive ads? …what?

Commenter B:

Read it again. That explanation has nothing to do with the discussion for advertisements, but why many Chinese restaurants are local, family owned businesses.

Me:

And what does that have to do with the claim that “chain restaurants couldnt compete”? Couldn’t compete in what area?

Commenter C:

Chains gotta pay people. Small local (sometimes/usually) have the free labor of the immediate family, or at least significantly cheaper labor. Chains will just have higher costs overall including advertising.

That’s where you get the meme of young Asian kids doing homework while in the back or taking orders.

Im not responding further. These people are incoherent. What are they even trying to say. McDonalds and Burger King “cant compete” with local chinese restuarants? They have higher cost of advertising? Do they even read what theyre typing?

please don’t interact with fools

Try not doing that
