chat I need roommate conflict advice as someone who avoids conflict like the plague

reddit r/amitheasshole

So my roommate has a white noise machine she puts on to sleep, and I’ve been noticing recently that how loud the noise machine is directly related to how well I sleep (it is volume adjustable) and it also makes it reallly hard for me to fall asleep if I’m already in bed and she turns it on (I go to bed before her)

So no problem first thing I do is I’m like yo roommate, noise machine is bugging me is there a quieter volume? And she turned it to a quieter volume that night problem solved, and before I go to bed I turn it on and I set it to that volume that allows me to sleep well.

But past couple days she’s been turning up the volume before she gets into bed, and I keep waking up in the middle of the night and not sleeping very well :( so I’m not sure what to do bc I’m assuming she turned it up bc it’s too quiet for her now.

if it disturbs you, but you think they can’t sleep without it, did you try earplugs? (it’s the easiest solution without confrontation.)

I think that is the easiest solution, but I’m worried that’ll bug me when I go sleep or they’ll fall out or I won’t be able to hear my alarm

It is something I can try though (and probably should try)

the reason I haven’t tried it is bc of the alarm thing, I need to find a day where me waking up at my alarm is not required which is rare

My condolences.

Earplugs shouldn’t make you deaf. (and you can just adjust the volume of your alarm, if you are concerned about that.)
But I think most alarms are noisier than white noise. (I never heard white noise, so I don’t have experience with it.)

or you can use a headset connected to your phone, and the alarm will sound directly in your ears. (I don’t recommend this though, since it’s a bad experience…)

 I’ll be home for spring break next week so I can prolly try them out then, actually
