tutuu I’m not deciding anything for you

but I can only respond to what you say

and to multiple people, myself included, it did not sound like you were trying to say you had been hit hard - the context of calling it a “tilting situation” and the way in which you told the story and described the hit just did not lend that image to me or to others

I’m sorry I didn’t infer the correct meaning of your words, but I do think it’s unfair to act like it’s entirely my (and only my) fault for that misunderstanding when I’m not the only native english speaker that was under the exact same impression

at the end of the day it’s just a miscommunication, not me trying to rewrite your reality for you (something I have no desire or reason to attempt), and unfortunately it has caused a very, very large disparity between the gravity with which you are treating this incident and with which I had been treating this incident

but in no way, shape, or form have I ever been attempting to maliciously contort your words or downplay the severity of things you expressed, and I genuinely don’t think there’s any room to move forward from this if you are unwilling to accept that I’m acting in good faith and just got the wrong idea at first

I have read the rest of your (now deleted) post, and there are two major points I would like to get across as the crux of what I have been saying all along, and although I was happy to drop it upon your request, given the contents of your now-deleted post I am going to make them again in the hopes that if I explain myself again you can at least understand where I am coming from, even if you end up not agreeing (which is okay!).

  1. I do not believe it would be in any way, shape, or form a sign of strength to respond to getting punched by turning around and starting a fistfight. Nor is it a sign of strength to whip out pepper spray (or a knife, or a gun, or anything of the sort). Most importantly, however, it is in no way a sign of being “weak” that you did not do this. This is the point that has been the guiding star of my posting here - it hurts to see you come and beat yourself up over you making what is, fundamentally, a rational move that resulted in you making it home safe and allowed time for the guy to be talked down by his friend. I’m sure it doesn’t feel good, and I’m not pretending it should, but it is definitely worse for you to let this incident consume your sense of self-worth.

  2. It would be even worse if in some future scenario you were to attempt to fight back and end up losing the resulting fight, especially if you end up getting ganged up on and stabbed or even shot. I do not wish to see you meet this fate! It is in fact the very definition of escalation to respond to a punch by threatening somebody with a weapon, nonlethal or otherwise, and although I do not in any way believe that you would be morally wrong to do so, nor do I believe you should not buy one (my response to you was just a caution not to accidentally end up pepper spraying yourself - I am in full support of your initial purchase and decision to carry it around), I just don’t want you to end up getting hurt because of it. Take it from somebody who lives in a country with more guns than people - weapons are not invincible shields against losing a fight, and without proper training and the proper mindset, attempting to deploy them can lead to worse outcomes for you if you are unlucky. And, unfortunately, the kind of person who would punch a stranger is probably stacking the odds in their favor, since they’re way more likely to have been in fights than you are and are much more likely to have illegal weapons on their person.

Neither of these points are defending your assailant, nor are they fundamentally based in moral grandstanding about physical violence being “wrong” (although this did certainly drive some of my initial posting when I believed you were conferring with us about an annoying scenario where you were lightly hit, not a scenario where you felt genuinely physically attacked - but again, this was down to miscommunication and I do not feel is particularly relevant to re-litigate now that aforementioned misunderstanding has been cleared up). Instead they are rooted in the firm belief that being a victim does not make you weak just because you didn’t escalate the conflict, and the desire for you to not end up coming out even worse in any future such incident.

To your questions about why I even bothered to chime in in the first place - you posted this story on a public forum with other users, several of whom are minors. I do not wish to let the idea that physically fighting back is the unequivocally correct course of action go unchallenged, nor the idea that you are weak because you were a victim, as I see these as directly potentially harmful to the health, happiness, and well-being of not only you but also other users of this site. This is also why I am posting this response publicly instead of in DMs.

I would just like to wrap this up by encouraging you to seek out a therapist to discuss your thoughts and feelings about this incident with. To be clear, this is in no way, shape, or form related to your posts about or directed towards me - instead, I find several of these sentiments that have been repeated over the past few days to be actively worrying to me:

It is clear to me that you have been deeply hurt by this incident in ways that are not healthy or productive. There is absolutely nothing wrong with leaving a situation like this deciding that you should arm yourself for self-defense should a similar scenario ever arise; however, it is not healthy to walk away from a scenario beating yourself up for not fighting back when you did nothing wrong, and it is not healthy to be afraid to go outside without a weapon in what you yourself describe as “normally a very safe country.”

I am genuinely deeply concerned for your happiness and well-being right now, and I hope you can look past my earlier misunderstanding to see that this recommendation is borne from the fact that I want you, specifically, to be in a good place in life. Walk away from this hating me for misunderstanding you if you must, but please find somebody professional to discuss this with who isn’t just a random collection of unqualified idiots like me online. You deserve not to let this incident make you unhappy for longer than the time it took to occur. You are not a worse person because somebody attacked you. And you deserve to be able to live your life free of fear.

tbh if somebody forced me to make a high-budget TV show it would probably be a death game if only because gestures at lack of other recent media consumption

critically any zero escape adaptations need to preserve the fucking stupidity of the games. or all charm is lost

no /srs i would, like

there needs to be at least one character who unironically believes something with similar weight to 9/11 being an inside job. but like more esoteric than that specific example

“adapt media with hopelessly small lore and make a TV show out of it” seems to never end well. It could theoretically make a decent kids show if you ignore the like killing
