end of the day if u aint hurtin anybody u do u but like I have to imagine the net good to society if people stopped all excessive drinking and drug use would be insane

IIRC, when people feel uncomfortable they try to not process their feelings by going on the phone. I think the same is kind of happening with alcohol.

For alcohol to have regular fun it’s not neccessarily suppressing your emotions. But for those that have like a strong relation to it… mayhaps

i have a condition that discourages me from drinking alcohol don’t really understand the appeal of alcohol but it’s undeniable that a lot of people are looking for immediate short term stress relief and it’s a functional outlet

drugs are a different beast because a lot of them genuinely will make you feel something
and a lot of them are also highly addictive

personally i’ve never had any interest in them because i despise the idea of degrading my own ability to function but they work
otherwise people wouldn’t be using them
