Cookie Thread Act 8: The Death of Batman and Superman

Would a public Discord be considered differently versus a private Discord?

hm… for me, no, because i think the answer is always “yes”. my mental model of social media is

-you need to make/have an account
-options to communicate with others over text with pictures/videos/etc.

which is pretty wide

its def a different Kind of social media i think

instagram is social media, snapchat is social media, reddit is social media, fol (and most forums) is social media, telegram is social media,

SMS text is not, imageboards such as 4chan is not

you could argue this, for example, makes Yahoo Chess a type of social media. Maybe have “primary purpose is to communicate with images/videos/text” as a qualifier?

the primary purpose of fol is to play mafia

and playing mafia is communicating over text

the primary purpose of mafia is to kill the wolves or survive

you do that via communicating

i dont really consider it an argument

to do something via communication is still communicating.

LinkedIn is meant to make job industry connections via communication, and seems like cut and dry Social Media

I personally would add that it needs to be publicly available.

i’m exaggerating for comedy’s sake i don’t think we’ve ever argued

mmm. maybe?

but snapchat is typically considered social media, and isn’t publicly available. similar with private insta accounts

unless you mean the site itself

it would sure be strange if Panasonic Blu Ray was mentioned somewhere on fol last night

…also i don’t know the word for a non-confrontational argument that isn’t a “disagreement” cause that sounds dumb

I mean, I’d define “publicly available” as, “you do not need the owner’s permission to view their stuff”, so private Instagram accounts are, I’d argue, not social media.
