idt its totally my thing but also im still gonna support it bc more indie animation is always good
glitch my bleoved
you think theyâre not gonna greenlight the brainchild of rubberross and egoraptor, with jschlatt in the VA booth?
(Iâm excluding Knights of Guinevere because I think that the only world where that show doesnât get greenlit is if something has gone very wrong with the merch sales.)
i also donât think itâs a very good trailer at telling me whatâs interesting about the characters like one of them (with neat character design & seems generally heroic) cares about another one (who is funny) and the third one is traumatized. instead they spend the time. Instead it spends the time asking if you remember old videogames (I donât)
ash how could you forget the twitter drama
hey the discourse could spiral even further out of control
My understanding of Twitter drama is through a Bluesky post about a Tumblr post about an Instagram Reel about a Twitter post.
i feel like this would be a great like, childrens cartoon but for nerds instead of people who like mickey mouse but itll probably be too edgy for that
like idk the trailerâs format and the jokes in it highkey reminded me of the mario movie more than anything
it feels like a kids movie
wait was there drama with Guinevere
was the show too good or something
my recollection of tumblr posts i saw about it is that dana terrace went on twitter & said some character (green?) was not transgender
oh yeah
basically everyone headcanoned frankie as transgender and then she wasnt
and while i still do its also like. completely fine to not have a transgender character
esp bc like, its not like owl house was trying to exclude lgbt rep or anything it was one of the best shows to do so
My understanding was that people head-canoned Frankie as trans, Dana shut that down, and people combined the speed of her doing that with âshe deleted a tweet where she criticized Disney for not airing the Moon Girl episode about a character being transâ to say she was being transphobic.
that just like tumblr drama where like, there was 0 issue but people made one up and got mad
Granted, Iâm, like, a fifth-hand source at best, so take âthe speedâ and âshut that downâ with wobbling levels of utility.
but yeah. the woke mob is going to cancel knights of guinivere. sorry.
ill cancel the woke mob before that happens
dana terrace my beloved
The thing I was considering is that unlike TADCâs main cast of 7, KoG only really has three people they can sell merch for.
Gaslight District got greenlit with a main cast of 4 and similar levels of interest, which is why Iâm not too worried about KoG, but itâs a consideration.
My understanding is that extremely roughly, 1 second of animation is $1,000. A minute is $60,000, and a 25 minute episode is about $1.5 million. From there, you need a voice cast, administrative management, marketing, etc. Iâm gonna hand-wave and call that $500,000 in total.
So each episode needs to make at least $2 million from merch sales to be worth making.
Further estimation: the average KoG merch thing looks to be about $25?
Youâve gotta convince people to buy at least 80,000 things for an episode to make its money back. And youâve gotta be certain that you can sell another 80,000 things for every episode after that one.
Thereâs definitely an argument for âif the first episode sells well enough, it can offset later episodes not being able to sell as wellâ, but thereâs a steep drop-off between a pilot and an episode 2 + 3 in viewership that youâd be fighting against from base level.
This is all me thinking out loud a bit. Closest comparable in my mind is anime being created to market and thus sell the underlying manga/light novel.
rubberross is an excellent animator and the show looks appealing
i dont know if i really care much for the setting/concept. obviously it gets a chance but I guess contrasting you i am someone who tadc basically immediately hooked and this doesnât seem to have the same sauce
