what are you researching? cancer? alzheimers? will you cure something?

The two I’m really hoping to get are on:

  • Single-stock ETFs and their effect on the underlying stock’s volatility
  • Creating a predictive model for a stock’s valuation based on how the user expects the company to perform going forward

The others are a bit drier: one is about testing different methods of portfolio optimization, one is about how VCs report their earnings and whether current accounting standards capture the needs of the industry, and one is on attempting to quantify ā€œentrepreneurial intelligenceā€.

Mmmm
I don’t think so
The point of Newspeak was to eliminate words and therefore their meanings
This is accomplishable because the meaning of a word was Absolute in newspeak
Toki Pona takes this in a different direction, where every word means way too much; in theory it’s the same, but any practical application of toki pona falls apart because you can invent new meanings on the spot

I am also not educated on toki pona at all

Problem: my phone’s screen has died. I had an alarm for 4:45PM to remind me to make dinner. I cannot interact with the phone or its home button in any capacity to turn the alarm off, I can only press the power button to snooze it

can you use the power button to turn the phone off or only to snooze the alarm?

Turning the phone off (in the ā€œscreen goes darkā€) way does not turn off the alarm. Turning the phone fully off requires use of the screen

I meant ā€˜fully off’ not ā€˜screen goes dark’ but that’s good to know

depending on the phone holding the power long enough will hard turn it off. depending on the phone you can take the sim card out and itll lock alot of the phones functionality. depending on the phone taking out the battery. depending on the phone you can take the battery out without risking fire or electric shock. lets go gambling

MY SOLUTION: put that shit inside a pillow and wait for it to give up. if you dont snooze it it eventually loses

  • do any new options become available to you if you plug the phone in to your computer?
  • if you drain the battery as fast as possible presumably it will turn off eventually
    • if you’re doing suggestion #1 this will slightly delay it, and you would want to remember to unplug the phone once you’re done looking
  • if you take the phone to a bootleg screen fixer place they can possibly fix the screen
  • if you, like, give up on the phone as a lost cause and smash it with a hammer or something it would probably also break the alarm?
