Paying off your balance before your payment due date? Matters a lot, always do this.

Pay off your balance before your statement closing date, so the credit bureaus see you have 0% utilization? Unideal, technically, but like, only as far as slight optimizations go - most people are far less likely to take out a home or auto loan on a given day than open a new credit card (and you will usually have plenty of advance notice for the big loans), so it’s strictly optimal to trade off some credit score points now for a higher utilization rate, and then only bring your utilization rate down to zero in advance of seeking a large loan. But this is just a small optimization - good to know, but by no means a dealbreaker to not always act on.

there was a physics person who was mafia and had a role that was like oh like you can invite 4 people to work on the manhattan project and whoever gets it correctly you get their rolecard + like one strongman each or some shit

anyways the physics person just did everyone’s problems for them p much.

at any rate it is FAR better to err on the side of paying off than to miss a payment

even a single missed payment can have huge negative impacts on your credit score for years

Oh my god

What were they trying to figure out???

I would mock this if I didn’t also succumb to the “make puzzles that only I enjoy solving” demons.

and this should really go without saying but never pay only the minimum

you’ll get charged (usually extremely high) interest on the rest and end up owing a lot more money than you should
