quizbowl will never have a sabermetrics movement because the underlying data is basically just “how many questions did they get” and “what’s this team’s points per bonus” and maybe at some tournaments “where did they get the question” but not super often.

but i’m thinking about the hypothetical timeline where quizbowl gets WAR and statistical narratives get to be made about when the optimal point to buzz is about weighting the probability of getting beaten vs the probability of negging. there’s probably a science to it

There are literal replacement players in each game. There are replacement players

Blaseball it’s hard to define a nebulous “replacement player” because of stat inflation/etc so we instead had WhAT (Wins [historical] Above Tokyo) which were defined by the performance of the Season 11 expansion team the Tokyo Lift, or their expected performance in a given stat environment. Again because of stat inflation it got pretty inflated by the end of things so I was a WAAhead
