the more you go into math the more you realize that the complex numbers are nice and misunderstood and the real numbers are the real villains of math

Naturals: the smallest inductive set containing 1 (or 0, depending on your definition) 
Integers: the natural numbers, their additive inverses, and 0
Rationals: numbers that can be written as a/b, where a and b are integers
Reals: the limits of cauchy sequences of rational numbers 
Complex: a + bi, where a, b are reals and i is the square root of -1
