This is what I’m going to do when I bite ankles

Other Science Questions I Heard Last Weekend, Comprehensively:
Round 1 Tossup - Mobius (good start. gave me false hope. was the only math tossup i heard that entire day, if memory serves.)
Round 1 Bonus - DHCP/DNS/HTTP (the smart fridge bonus i showed earlier. i only got the last part, i’m not a computer toucher.)

Round 2 (Bye Round) Tossup - neural networks (not to brag, but i would’ve gotten this tossup before either of the very good teams i was watching. something something ai sludge though )
Round 2 Bonus - finite/meshes/Maxwell’s equations (like. slight math in there depending on what you count the finite difference method as. clearly majority physics oriented though, but put in other science because it wasn’t cleanly physics.)

Round 3 Tossup - star formation (i don’t know enough astro and we were playing a better team so i got cooked)
Round 3 Bonus - up arrows/Ramsey Theory/John Conway (i would’ve 30ed but the other team got it and they literally have a guy who’s studying ramsey theory. what’re you gonna do.)

Round 4 Tossup - central limit theorem (stat’s almost math if you think about it for too long. got a decently good buzz)
Round 4 Bonus - Richard Carrington/auroras/corona (basically got a free 30 for being familiar with what the carrington event was called.)

Round 5 Tossup - mines (one of my teammates actually got a pretty sick buzz for knowing something they do to extend the lifespan of the mines. kinda cool idea i know nothing about. it’s the miner kind not the explosive kind to be clear.)
Round 5 Bonus - lamdba/log/Q-Q plot (more stat! got the first two parts, had never heard of the third one in my lfie)

Round 6 Tossup - ocean waves (was completely lost for the entirety of this tossup describing ocean waves in a scientic manner, got cooked at the end when the other team processed what was going on before i did)
Round 6 Bonus - software testing/bugs/Tony Hoare (other team got the first two parts. i probably would’ve done the same provided i didn’t make some fuckup on the first part.)

Round 7 Tossup - logic gates (apparently some teams struggled on what this tossup was asking for, and since it was tossup 20 i’m aware this decided the result of at least one game. i figured it out though :relieved:.)
Round 7 Bonus - halos/cirrus/zenith (we inted ourselves into only getting the medium.)

Round 8 Tossup - dating (as in like, the archaeology thing get your head out of the gutter. one of my teammates got a sick buzz on this actually, which was very good since i was completely lost.)
Round 8 Bonus - quasars/Seyfert galaxies/gravitational lensing (we got the first and third parts.)

Round 9 Tossup - data compression (i sent this tossup earlier. other team negged firstline, i waited until the lastline like a dutiful quizsoldier.)
Round 9 Bonus - irreducible/rings/quadratic (i have my gripes about this bonus as documented earlier but honestly i was just happy to hear math again.)

Round 10 Tossup - temperature (meteorology tossup. lost a buzzer race on a stock clue about lapse rate.)
Round 10 Bonus - matrix multiplication/primality testing/Turing machine (don’t let that first answerline fool you, this was a cs bonus through and through. the other team got the first and last parts.)

Round 11 Tossup - CMBR (it’s an astronomy thing. i figured out what it wanted around halfway through sentence 4.)
Round 11 Bonus - proofs/data types/arity (another cs bonus with a first answerline that could fool an observer who was only getting answerlines into thinking it was math. as documented earlier, we got the first two parts but george orwell tragically took the third one away from us)

it also sounds a lot like a child

the way the tournament/set worked meant there were several packets we didn’t hear and i’m hoping for the set’s sake that they have a ton of math

damn i killed it

this is the quizbowler xkcd

Quizbowlers LOVE knowing the formulas for olivine and one or two feldspars. And quartz, of course.

oh quizbowlers hate geology actually

myself included

there wasn’t actually any geology in the other science. which is a little weird but also funny when you realize all the packets i played were largely submissions from other teams

maybe the tossup on dating? i’m not entirely sure
