Here, “intro to diffeq” is one class, and then you have “ODEs and dynamical systems”, which is a more advanced class. That’s why you never learned this. I’m taking different math
It primarily focuses on ODEs that you can’t find an analytical solution to. Graphing them, finding fixed points, finding the behaviour around those fixed points, using perturbation theory to get an estimate, that kind of thing. It’s good math
george orwell
It’s kind of applicationspilled, like the guy who teaches it has a physics PhD not a math one, but it’s still a strictly math course per May University
And bifurcations. I love bifurcations
we did bifurcations in ODEs. but presumably not as in depth
I know I’ve explained this to you before I just don’t particularly have any restraint here. Understand this
Good amount of ODEs on the circle, too. Did you do the circle?
if you do PDEs ever it’s basically impossible to get exact solutions for any of them. because they hate you. they just cover the wave equation and then the heat equation and then some other stuff i don’t actually remember that much from the class
don’t think so?
I’m doing PDEs with the same guy next semester! I was talking to a math major friend and he was like “yeah it’s a [professor’s last name] semester, any semester where you’re taking one of his classes is a [last name] semester” (This is true and good)
All his exams are extremely easy it’s awesome. They all have at least 20% bonus points, his finals usually 35%
good news: the wave equation and heat equation have direct solutions.
bad news: both of them have integrals in them. the heat equation in particular has the error function
erf() my favourite result when I type my ACalc homework into Wolfram Alpha
Hmmm. My knees now kind of hurt again. Not so long-lasting.
wolframalpha just straight up broke when i tried to multiply three 6x6 matrices, as was required by my advanced linalg homework
i found another site that got them to work but it was annoying
not in the least because they all had decimal values that were also extremely annoying to type
one of them was at least the inverse of one of the others so i just got to copy it and ^-1. but it was orwellian
I don’t think even I could enjoy doing that out by hand
