in spite of this denver’s baseball and football teams are in the nl west and afc west respectively because sports leagues are so east concentrated

despite the geographic names the divisions in both those leagues at times prioritize historical rivalries over making geographic sense
this is much more apparent in the nfl. where the dallas cowboys are in the nfc east despite being basically dead center as far as east-west goes and being south of at least one nfc south team
indianapolis is geographically north of cincinnati. the indianapolis colts are in the afc south and the cincinnati bengals are in the afc north
all those words got jumbled into my head into “nfl is dead”
actually looking at it further dallas is geographically further south than charlotte and atlanta (albeit barely) [nfc south] and indianapolis and nashville [afc south]
despite being the furthest south of the florida teams (and naturally nfl teams in general) the miami dolphins are the only florida team to not be in a south division
