okay so in 2014 they hosted an online tournament on a hard science-only set that. get this. was already posted to the archives. dumb fucking idea, right? anyway a guy who put up 16.29 ppg at DII SCT (easy, for babies) just two months earlier suddenly became the best science player in the world, absolutely demolishing much better science players. completely denied all wrongdoing

honestly iām out of funny cheating stories. besides the one about an online tournament shortly after covid started where people brought out full on statistical evidence that someone cheated, to the point that a well-respected quizbowler confessed to it. still well-respected because they paid for everyone elseās entry fee and self-banned themselves from ACF for a year (irrelevant, they were not in college anymore). half the community is convinced someone else also cheated and got away with it, itās bordering on open secret level.

and perhaps the anecdotal one for an online tournament i was staffing where someone buzzed crazy early on a stoicism tossupā¦ with chryssipus, the stoic being clued

suffice to say no high school set is tossing up chryssipus. like i already had the spidey sense they were cheating (if you have enough quizbowl experience you can kinda just tell) but that absolutely confirmed it
