in my homebrew experience wizard-esque abilities tend to be more controlled as well so I donāt think youād get what you want

I canāt really answer this with a specific example. A reasonably balanced wizard wish is equivalent in power to other Minion abilities, and the price and clue are there to drag down what would be overpowered wishes. Yes itās incredibly difficult to get right, and Wizard is the hardest character to run. But also, in theory, any wish that wouldnāt get outright denied is balanceable.
I guess what I would say is that expecting wizard games to be fully 100% solvable is probably not the right mindset to approach the character and can be reasonably stated as to why you donāt like it. But like, botc isnāt really intended to be fully mechsolvable 100%, wizard just pushes it.
Would hardly call it one of the worst releases. I personally donāt think it shouldāve released but thatās more because I have a different issue (ST consult tracking) that wasnāt fixed.

poisoner is fine since it can only affect one person, xaan is fine because itās only one night, etc
and the Clue offers that for wizard in this perfect world
but when something is boundless an obvious problem rises, and that comes to the terms where i just donāt think itās very fun in a way

i donāt think either of us can think of a wish, a clue, and a consequence that significantly impacted the game and was fun and engaging for everyone, whilst both being good mechanically
