BOTC/BOTF Discussion Thread 2

People don’t learn their character. (And Depending on the script/ST, they won’t know their alligment, either.)
Above winning the game, people need to figure out their characters based on the prompts/information the ST gives them.

It can be a fun puzzle with experienced players and the right script.

oh sorta like amesiac

i don’t think I’d do well on it I’m not experienced at all past just remembering charactera

Amnesiac can be anything.
in blind, you can be only characters from the script. (It usually doesn’t include Amne, cause it’s abilit too “on the nose” to figure out, you are an Amne or not.)

if no one knows they are evil how can any reads get made in the day phase i dont get it

The game is typically played in shortform, which offsets most of the worry about not knowing your alignment for a day or two in practice. Certain bouts of information might confirm your own alignment to yourself, like if you learned a “2” without context you’re still definitely a Townsfolk because evils just don’t learn that sort of information, etcetera. Whereas if you first woke up N2 with instructions to choose a player… you’d have concerns, which might lead you to lie about your information, and thus opens the puzzle.

irl blood on the clocktower is so great.
i had an evil twin game irl where i convinced my twin that there was never an evil twin pair and they were affected by a wizard. and then got her executed and won

I was not prepared for how little time there is in irl. because most of my social deduction experience is on forum each day felt so so so short and i was not prepared for the chaos. some people had little notebooks to keep track and when i go again i am going to bring one i think.

everything moves so fast, i snuck out to get a beer at one point and came back 2 mins later to the town being convinced i was evil because i was being shifty

yeah your gonna need a notebook.
especially when you get a homework character like Flower girl or Towncrier

Hey I don’t take notes usually if im playing clocktower

This gave me a reasonable excuse to bluff flowergirl who had forgotten what their info meant :skull:

and that’s why you take flowergirl notes even if you’re not flowergirl

u dont have to take notes by any means, i dont stop people from doing it but when i play i dont take notes

granted, bc i have much more experience than the other players, i usually fuck around and try to do things they haven’t done yet (i love to eavesdrop on people irl sooo much)

so today I was playing BotC online with some people from uni, of which the only people who had played before were me, 1 other player, and the Storyteller

I randed Scarlet Woman

we’re in final four with me, unclaimed-but-really-obvious Virgin, starting Imp, and ~semi-confirmed Saint claim

I nominate unclaimed Virgin in the hopes of forcing the dome, he’s like “I’m the Virgin”, everyone decides they trust him more, the nomination fails with 1 vote

he nominates me, no one understands how ‘evils being able to tie votes’ works so the only votes on me are him and the Demon, but Technically that’s still enough to execute

the Saint is like “I have another nomination”

in my head I’m going “oh fuck did he figure it out”

he nominates……………

himself

this theoretically could’ve been a play for a tie but in fact his reasoning was “I just think we should be considering every option, it could be me, you know?”
