Trying to get them to crack and admit they weren’t the clockmaker and thus make them look more suspicious even if they didn’t claim to be the mutant outright and just claimed another townsfolk it would have looked more suspicious

i dont think that this was impossible for loyals: evil’s plays to get leafia executed were a gambit. If you had found leafia villager, you would have had 2 minions and an evil traveller served to you on a silver platter, and the 3rd one confirmed dead from oracle info (or gorta is evil, but he’d no longer have any saftey net).
With an active/unpoisoned philosopher, flowergirl, and the seamstress info, the demon PoE could have been easily chopped to bits; in this scenario that evil couldn’t get Leafia executed, I believe that @Daeron’s sweetheart claim would have carried the game for evils and given them a fighting shot in an otherwise pretty lost scenario, so congrats on the astuteness of deciding to pivot to sweetheart in particular
