An evil traveller is arguably less skewed than adding a Politician so well as a Drunk on a metric of power, although perhaps it’d even out with the erasure of a Spy or Goblin so who can really say. It’s entirely possible May and Daeron perceived the balance and usage of certain abilities different from their ivory towers to how they’d be seen on the ground.

That’s also probably why Kiiruma isn’t the Drunk unless Hippo’s evil, for better or worse. Setting aside the fact it condemns Zug as a necessary evil or Lleech host, it’d still necessitate the presence of a Politician so well as an additional evil number in the Traveller — I presume the Storytellers would know better than to make the numbers 5v5, even with a Magician and Virgin in-play.
Note that I’d thoroughly expect a Lunatic to have figured out their Minions by now unless it was Jarek, who didn’t learn Magician in his information.
The only theoretical avenue would be for an Apprentice to register as evil whilst learning they were good, but I don’t think this works because their ability is gained from the script, it’s not externally taken from a player on the circle. I wouldn’t think so, although it’s very much up to interpretation.

I think it’s viable.
It forces Poli!Magnus into a bluff early when they otherwise have no info.
And if Magnus chooses, it actually reveals it’s a Baron game which is really useful info.
