Cookie Thread Act 3: The Cookie Strikes Back

well some of the waterbending looks decent and there hasn’t been enough earthbending to say for sure either way, but the firebending and the airbending both look pretty bad

This is why certain things just need to not be live action.

I said the same thing for One piece

Okay how does fire bending look bad it’s Fire

apparently Sokka’s actor was 19 when they started filming and Aang’s actor was 12

It’s probably the easiest one to do!

it looks like CGI fire (probably because it is) in a way that just feels. fake? idk how to explain it

Yeah this doesn’t really help when Sokka is supposed to be a kid in the series as well. Him trying to defend the village, and be a strong warrior at a young age is part of his character

Like I get that live actions need to make certain changes, and that sticking to every story detail can make it worse but meh

I think Sokka-the-character is 15, it’s just the actor that’s older – this is pretty common in movies (regardless of whether you think it’s bad)

Yeah, I just felt like Sokka not being an adult is a large part of his character. Him trying to be a leader and warrior before he is ready. Him looking like a college student is w.e

this is a really cold take but I think they should have just not said anything about cutting the Sokka sexism plot, like if they hadn’t said anything I don’t think ~anyone would have been like ‘this adaption, which is already not a 1:1 adaption of every event in the original series, should have had more sexism!’ but when they were like ‘we cut the sexism because it was Problematic to have a sexist character’ everyone was like ‘wow this is really dumb’ (because their reasoning was really dumb)

fwiw there’s a great bit in episode 1 where Sokka is lecturing people on abandoning their watch posts, and then it pans to the people he’s lecturing and they’re like. elementary schoolers

Meet The Soldier

You’re telling me that took out Sokka’s entire character plot?

:wowee:

Wait, it’s problematic to have a sexist characters? Can somebody please inform the showrunners of May

they didn’t even take it out, they just removed the part where he was explicitly a misogynist as opposed to being an overconfident teenager who assumes that Obviously he’s a better fighter than anyone else

Got some plotlines to cut

Like the Sokka/Toph stuff hits so fucking differently if Sokka isnt sexist

What made the sexist plot so funny is how he got his ass handed to him by woman very early on in the series iirc

afaik Toph doesn’t appear in season 1 of the liveaction, which makes sense since she also did not appear until season 2 of the actual show
