i say just one as if it wasn’t in like. at least three games
Sorta? Sorta not? It’s complicated
I realize there is less of it but. It is definitely still a thing.
If I were hosting and somebody deserved it I would just force replace them and move on and the mods would not stop me provided I was not being egregiously unfair about it. I have the literal permissions and there’s no guidebook saying I can’t. If I did it incorrectly, I’d probably get a talking-to, same as here.
I think it was a case of this host either wanting validation from the mods that I was Wrong, or wanting the mods to do the force replace for them because I was Mean and Cruel and they didn’t want to talk to me directly. I dunno how exactly it went down
i don’t remember too many recent examples of it? unless you count the experimental endgame again
I think it was also partially because this force replace would’ve been primarily for a host/player dispute: they were upset at me because they thought I was too critical of their game decisions
But in general from what I’ve seen hosts on NL are more, like, beholden to the mods than hosts on FoL or Quizbowl. It’s one Discord server, it’s the same Discord server and channels every time, only one game runs at once. The host doesn’t get their own “space”, whether it’s a thread or a separate server, to run a game in; they’re just borrowing the server, kinda. That’s the vibe, at least.
i admire arete calling it quizbowlcord always because they are literally the only person who calls it that
Blood on the Clocktower wasn’t that long ago.
midgame balancing is a feature of botc, not a bug
we’ve also never hosted longform botc and hopefully we never do
botc is like. something i can handle if the game is short enough. if i only have to think about an individual game for an hour or two at most. but give enough time in a flipless game to think about all the various possible worlds? enough to make someone go feral
the most recent game had (at minimum) “GM realizes a player’s role is blatantly OP and nerfs it” and “GM says my ability can’t do a thing, but also indicates potential openness to changing their mind”
how do BotC players lose longform games? are they stupid?
also half the roles just don’t work in longform. flower girl goes from interesting role that has to keep track of votes and work things out to “oh wow everyone voted again for the third day in a row i KNOW it’s not a vortox game”
My head breaks in shortform BotC because I’m so used to longform
Also because I’m not good at BotC but that’s unrelated :joycat:
I can’t believe I would’ve perfect solved that last game if I just remembered that the Philo Flowergirl also got info. I had dismissed their claim outright when I first heard it, so I didn’t even think about what their info was. I was like that’s too damn stupid to be true, they’re always Minion or Demon, I just need to figure out which
and then I proceeded to build worlds where they weren’t Minion or Demon and forgot to consider their info in those ones
i’m not good at BotC which is a bit embarassing considering that i’m working on an extensive fanmade expansion for the game
