I have at least 5 medical professionals or people who work in medical care in various fields in my immediate family, and all of them want people to get the care they need. I am being deceived by sisters, mother, aunt, and grandfather?

i feel like the amount of doctors who take money from pharmaceutical companies is very very very low
the vast majority of medical professionals actually want to help people, and take their oath to have their patient’s best interest in mind really seriously

and trust me, no doctor wants to diagnose someone with something they don’t have, or prescribe someone something that could have lasting side effects unless they HAVE to

that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen

everybody in my program’s main fear after we go out into the field is to give a misdiagnosis

every medical program i know is required to have some sort of ethics class that covers how an incorrect diagnosis or prescription can fuck up multiple lives - not only the patient but those around them too (and yours!)

this is all anecdotal tbf, but i know dozens of people who never ever ever want to misdiagnose someone and not a single one who i think would intentionally do it

One of my sisters is an optometrist and she has a ton of debt from grad school, and the two areas she’s worked in, chose to work in are low income and rural areas. She’s talked before how she feels bad because these people cannot afford the kind of medical care they need, and is heartbroken when someone comes in having permanently damaged their eyes with something that was totally curable, but waited until it was dire because of the cost. She sees the cost of her care as tragic, not with dollar signs in her eyes.
