I agree with the complaints that the interface is Just Worse than CluesbySam

Character names are now in alphabetical order.

Let me apologize in advance.

I tried out Gossipdle out of curiosity, hoping it was something similar to Clues by Sam. I like trying out variations of logic puzzles. (E.g., Duotrigordle being Wordle but then multiplied by thirty-two.)

So, it was rather a let-down when I realized that Gossipdle is just a clone of Clues by Sam. (An inferior clone, but… I digress.) Leaving quality aside, the main issue I see from Gossipdle is its originality. Its gimmick. Its schtick.

As of now, the only thing that separates Gossipdle from Clues by Sam is the themed flavor text, and some players might be content with that. However, I regret to say that I am not.

While I would love to be able to give a proper feedback by giving suggestions as to how Gossipdle could be improved, I unfortunately cannot think of any.

I am sorry to leave you with disappointment, but… for what it’s worth, I wish you a nice day.

oh, are you the one who made it? I could try to unpack my thoughts into more detailed feedback if it would be helpful

Yes, i am the maker of gossipdle.com

I want to sincerely apologize that the game hasn’t met your expectations. I’m aware there are still many areas that need improvement.

Of course, if you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to share them with me. If you have ideas to make it a particularly special and more enjoyable game, I’m willing to bring those ideas to life.

No worries, I’ll do my best to make it better. I’m actually a big fan of Cluesbysam myself — I’ve always wanted to create a more story-driven puzzle game. Haha, if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know anytime!

ok!

I like CluesbySam, it doesn’t really bother me that this game is a CluesbySam clone, I’m not about to turn down more CluesbySam. That said:

Cosmetic suggestions:

  • The plain version currently has at most 1 person with a name that starts with each letter. I think this is good, and (like the alphabetization change you already made) makes the puzzle easier to navigate – contrast with today’s themed version, which has e.g. four different people whose first names start with D. The quick-and-dirty way to fix this is to just… keep the first names from the unthemed version, and give them surnames, themed professions, etc. as you’re currently doing?
  • Relatedly, it would be nice if there were fewer professions with names that were almost exactly the same (e.g. Cosmetic Injector vs. Cosmetic Consultant) – ideally the challenge should be coming from putting together the logic, not from having to double-check whether someone is an “injector” or a “consultant”
  • CluesbySam lets you click on a square to make its clue less “bright” (see below for an example, has spoilers for today’s puzzle). This is helpful for keeping track of what clues you’ve already used up.

  • The share interface doesn’t work properly for me on desktop but I’m not sure what the underlying technical issue is
  • This is low priority compared to my other thoughts, but if the main “draw” of this version is intended to be the theming, it would probably be good to have more different themes rather than just plastic surgeons (or at least, both of the puzzles I’ve seen are plastic surgeons).

Logic thoughts
I think this is a bigger issue than the cosmetic thoughts, but probably also harder to fix and harder to explain – solving Gossipdles is a lot easier than solving CluesbySam? Both Gossipdles I tried, most of the puzzle basically felt like I was just following instructions, I didn’t really have to think through the puzzle or do a lot of reasoning in order to solve it. CluesbySam does a better job of making it so that there are usually some squares that you can only answer by synthesizing several clues, or places where you have to stop and think for a moment about how the puzzle fits together, and that’s just not true with Gossipdle.

good luck with the game, though, it’s cool that you’re trying to make something like this!

Thank you so much — I’m truly touched that you provided such detailed and sincere suggestions.

I find all of your suggestions very meaningful, and I agree that they should definitely be included in my optimization tasks. I’ll work on implementing these improvements as soon as possible.

By the way, I actually prepared 100 themes, and the repetition over the past two days might have been due to random chance. I’ll also optimize this part of the logic.
