It’s largely the same as Discord, which is also something you don’t know. They try to be intuitive with it, but it’s variable how well that succeeds. See this symbol on your keyboard ~, you hold shift and press the thing to the left of the 1 to type it.
That horizontal squiggly line kind of looks like the sort of line you might use to cross something out so
