Pride Month? I’ve only heard of Men’s Mental Health month, because I am absolutely a supporter of Men’s Mental Health as shown by my incredibly consistent support specifically when Pride Month is on-going and absolutely not to dogwhistle my homophobic intentions to overshadow Pride Month at all And of course Men’s Mental Health is entirely negatively impacted by women and absolutely not caused by the ingrained, rooted and leeching effects of the patriarchy

wait but if we were truly trying to dogwhistle we’d call out men as the case of issues with men’s mental health

since we aren’t gay

FoL is a place for positivity, and not hostility, to thrive. Site design intentionally pushes this narrative. Unfortunately, as a side effect, people are unaware that sometimes when they make a post, they should’ve just not have posted at all.

That’s why I’m calling on the @admins to immediately implement dislikes on FoL.

It’s become clear absolutely fucking tragic posting of a certain person (you know who you are) lately that they really, really need to see a pile of dislikes pop up on their posts.

And guess what - by site design, you can only like and not dislike my post - so even if you disagree with me get fucked. If not by the reasons I just listed that we should enable dislikes, you should be campaigning for dislikes so that you can dislike my post about introducing dislikes.

The argument has clearly been made that “Likes” on certain types of posts may be considered “unecessary” and “toxic”, even despite the fact that I don’t know how to spell one of those words. Hence, the moderation logs do not allow likes, as it may be considered unsupportive or dogpiling to like the post of someone whose ban was a loooooooong time coming.

However, the inverse is true as well. If likes can be an avenue for expressing discontent, then similarly, dislikes may be a way to spread positivity. For every waking second that dislikes are being held back from us, a way for us to express appreciation and kindness is being held back, leading to an unhealthy site culture.

You raise many good points, but the implementation of dislikes poses many logistical issues. As a result, I think it would be best to use some “retro” forum technologies. In the days of yore, users who had used up all of their likes for the day would reply to posts they liked with “manual like.” Therefore, if you encounter a post you dislike, simply quote it and respond with “manual dislike”
