if you were all in on NVIDIA then sure :joy_cat:

I mean, it’s been the primary driver of growth for the market as a whole.
Ripple effects are gonna be messy.

unlikely, unless things get much much worse

My understanding is the situation is that Deepseek is able to function with lower-end chips than the ones that Nvidia makes, so the company’s decade-long advantage is nullified by the lower cost.
So it really comes down to an argument of, “Would Nvidia’s chips be necessary for a higher-quality version of the product?” and “Would consumers really care?”

like the market is still up on the last week

plus a new AI company coming onto the scene hardly represents a burst of the AI bubble :joy_cat:

k fair

I don’t think it’s necessarily a burst so much as an indication that the industry is going to shift. Deepseek’s presenting a new (and maybe more effective?) method of training that might force a lot of AI companies to course-correct if they want to keep up, they’ve made their project open-source to allow for copycats, and investors are now going to start considering abroad projects with more interest. It all leads to AI companies domestically facing new uphill battles.

I imagine Trump is probably going to step in at some point, and it’s gonna kickstart a whole mess, but that’s a February problem.

From a consumer standpoint, amazing, extremely glad that we’re getting there.
From a market standpoint, hell.

Anyways, that’s neither here nor there.
Prediction is that market recovers slightly over the course of the next couple of days, and we’re probably going to get something from the White House by EoD Wednesday that goes full-on “China is attempting to destroy this great nation” and leads us into ???.

Maybe Tuesday, if the companies lobby hard enough.
