I don’t think it’s non-casual anime watchers so much as people with, like, stuck-up taste. Like Disco Elysium isn’t something that I think of as specifically popular with Hardcore Gamers who have played 10,000 video games. I know a solid number of people who have played One vidoe game and it’s Disco Elysium. More just people with stuck-up Literary taste

Idk, I don’t think it’s stuck-up to hear about a show a lot and hear that shows I like were influenced by it (Gundam Witch and Kill La Kill are notable examples that are loudly evoking Utena), and I wanted to have that context so I could better engage with the works that it influenced and try to understand why.

I haven’t even played Disco Elysium but it does seem like exactly my kind of shit, at least in theory.

I’ve also been playing Path of Exile 2 which has basically no literary value, but I just enjoy the gameplay, so it’s not even like a mutually exclusive thing like you have to pick Fortnite or Disco Elysium.
