Champs will always be fundamentally flawed so long as they keep trying to make it both a competitive event (jury, award at the end) and a social event (player advancement, speccat hype) imo

the one time i did play i gave 0 shit about specchat and i followed along to like 1 game that same season which i after got bored
its the comp event
the social event is like every other game ever

yu do not need to coddle egos and make everyone happy
and i say this as a loser who got swept

there is no way to make singular one-off games of mafia a meaningful competition, and mafia is inherently flawed as a competitive game due to a central game mechanic, the factional kill, being incredibly imbalanced.

it’s a party game. don’t think too hard about it.
