Odyssey to the Fortress of Lunacy - Day 4 (11/28)

What is the current FoL town gameplay culture and why do you think town will lose because of it? Not knowing the context, this post feels very tautological to me.

Like very careful to consider.

Towns acting wolfy whilst Wolves can act like townies.

Town won 3 out of 10 games this year so far. A sample size of 10 isn’t very large, but this has been a pattern since ~forever. It was the same thing last year. 20 towns died in a row in FAM5, no wolf in between.

A lot of players are very active on FoL (in terms of community; cookie thread) and much less active in mafia games for this reason.

I have two game theory thoughts that I would like to share, but I need to shower first. I’ll return soon.

The reason being that town doesn’t win the majority of games on FoL?

Yes, and because there is a vast difference in interest in playing Mafia on a competitive level between players. Most of the players who are more competitive end up looking elsewhere to play, or nowhere at all, after losses they find frustrating.

I didnt know town has a low win rate, on the contrary i find when im mafia town tend to do exceedingly well

Hippo put it more eloquently than me.

I do blame the cookie thread sometimes

How do you feel about the economy

Maybe I’m just really rusty, but I’m actively having trouble actively comprehending the current early gamestate, and most of the posts I read make my eyeballs glaze over.

Let me post some wider level observations.

  • I understand where people are coming from with how they’re saying tutuu is wolfy for being stilted/awkward and conforming to a playbook of trying to appear town rather than actually be town. I have virtually no meta to work off of but I have enjoyed reading their posts because they actually make a fair amount of sense to me and I agree with them on a number of reads. So I feel fine with tutuu at the moment; I don’t really want to execute them D1 unless someone shows me their playstyle is very polarized between scum and town.

  • Agree with tutuu on Hippo and Terminator townreads; Hippo feels fairly relaxed and he feels like he’s marching to the beat of his own drum which is on par with how I’ve played with him in the past. I like how Terminator has interacted with two of his primary wolfreads (tutuu and Altina) - it feels like he’s evaluating both of them somewhat on a fair weather axis but also is making his scumreads on both pretty clear.

  • With Wisp/Altina and catbae, pretty content to like just interact with them a lot D1 to get a clear sense of how they’re approaching the game and then trying to narrow down their alignment on subsequent days when we have flips. I forgot how to read Wisp and he’s gotten so much better as a mafia player since I’ve last played with him regularly, and if catbae is a wolf I’m not going to get there on him until much, much later in the game.

I will say that both of them being kinda floaty and not really trying to push agenda or direction early on gives me like the slightest positive indicator for both of them since I feel like they would have some internal pressure to lead as wolf, but that’s a really loose read.

Gonna be out for the evening but will try to look at more things before bed.

Town has a low win rate everywhere
/Shrug

Tbh me and Gira did a great job of bouncing each other in our last town game together, and so far I have no reason to think they are town again, at least for now. Same goes for you, so I would happily accept this town circle, especially given we all have different ways of looking at players and the thread state

No reason to think they aren’t* town

I’m headed home now, gunna give myself a bit to relax and eat, and read up, and then I’ll likely thread camp for a couple hours or the rest of the night, till I sleep
